Workload

The completion of the curriculum in the prescribed volume is assessed at the faculty after one standard study year (two studied semesters) has passed since the matriculation of the student or the last transfer to the next study year. The study load is checked at the end of the academic year.

Completion of the curriculum for studying free of charge is evaluated in Estonian curricula and for students of English curricula who have a tuition-waiver student place at the end of each semester of study as of the date preceding the start of the following semester. In order to continue without paying students must have completed the required amount of curriculum.

Those who fail to fulfil the requirements for part-time study by completing the minimum amount of the curriculum are exmatriculated due to lack of progress.

If free places have become available in a particular curriculum (if more students have dropped out than expected), then from the second semester the free places will be filled via a competitive process.

Full-time or part-time workload

Students studying in a course system are transferred to the next study year of their curricula:

• in full-time study, if the total number of credits completed by the student is at least 75% of the standard workload to be completed according to the curriculum to which the student has been matriculated 

• in part-time study, if the total number of credits completed by the student is less than 75% but more than 50% of the standard workload to be completed according to the curriculum to which the student has been matriculated. 

Those who fail to fulfil the requirements for full-time study are transferred to a part-time student place. In part-time studies the TRP will be terminated and the tuition-waiver student place will be lost.

What is contact learning?

Contact learning means studies in which both the student and the teaching staff member participate at the same time, including studies occurring in real time using two-way audio and video communication.

Benefits and restrictions

If a student or external student works in Estonia, then according to the Estonian Adult Education Act they have the right to apply for study leave from their Estonian employer.

Students can apply for scholarships or for stipends and allowances.
